In 2010, Trieste Airport, on the whole, recorded 727 thousand passengers. The main traffic component - commercial passengers - counted 721,063 transits, up 4,3% with respect of 2009.
Scheduled traffic performed particularly well, posting a +7%: in this context, 2010 domestic scheduled traffic was up 14.5%, while low-cost traffic was up 37.9%.
These very good results were achieved notwithstanding the negative trend recorded at the beginning of the year, due to global recession and also to the cancellation of many flights during the volcanic ash cloud event, last April.
As a matter of fact, in the second part of 2010, traffic grew again, with an excellent trend especially in the last Quarter of the year, not only thanks to the opening of the flights to Milan Linate, Genoa and of the low-cost service to Valencia, but also to the very good performance of all the scheduled flights operating at the airport.
Paolo Stradi, the General Manager of Trieste Airport, has been awarded - first one in Italy - with the designation of International Airport Professional (IAP). This is the most relevant professional award by ACI (Airport Council International) and ICAO (International Civil Aviation Organisation).
